James Shein, Moderator
Clinical Professor, Management & Strategy
Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University

James Shein is Clinical Professor of Management & Strategy and also is part of Kellogg’s Levy Institute for Entrepreneurial Practice. He is also counsel at McDermott, Will & Emery with primary areas of practice including corporate financial and operating restructurings, business startups and acquisitions, and fiduciary duties of officers and directors.

Previously, Shein spent four years as the President and CEO of R.C. Manufacturing and ten years prior to that as President and CEO of Northbrook Corporation. He has chaired programs at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and conducts seminars and workshops on commercial loan structuring and workouts for the Bank Lending Institute and the Banking Law Institute. He was elected by his peers as Vice President of the Turnaround Management Association, and is on the International Board of Directors.

Shein graduated with an engineering degree from Purdue University and then earned an M.B.A. from Indiana University. He also holds a doctoral degree in organizational behavior from Indiana University. He later received his juris doctor degree, cum laude, from Loyola University of Chicago.

 

 

Duncan Bourne
Managing Director
Wynnchurch Capital

Duncan Bourne has been associated with Wynnchurch since 2003. Prior to Wynnchurch, he was a Partner with BDO Seidman LLP, where he led BDO’s Midwest turnaround and restructuring practice. He was also was a Director with AlixPartners, an internationally recognized turnaround, performance improvement, and financial advisory firm, and a Senior Manager in Ernst & Young’s Financial Advisory Services consulting group. He began his career with BPAmoco as a chemical engineer.

Bourne is a Certified Turnaround Professional and a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, with more than 20 years of experience in turnarounds, financial restructurings, and operational performance improvement. He works extensively with Wynnchurch portfolio companies, and has prior interim management experience in manufacturing, transportation, hospitality, and consumer products. He also serves on the Board of Directors of ICG Castings, Inc.

Bourne holds a B.S., Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from University of Chicago.

 

 

Patrick Pinkston
Vice President, Global Platform Services, Agriculture & Turf Division
Deere & Company

Patrick Pinkston is Vice President of Global Platform Services in the Agriculture & Turf Division of Deere & Company. Deere & Company, founded in 1837 (collectively called John Deere), has grown from a one-man blacksmith shop into a corporation that employs approximately 56,000 people and that manufactures and distributes products and services for agriculture and forestry worldwide.

Pinkston graduated from Iowa State University at Ames with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1977 and began working for the Company at the Product Engineering Center, Waterloo, IA, in the same year. Over the next two decades, Pinkston held positions of increasing responsibility at the Product Engineering Center, the Waterloo Works, the Chihuahua, Mexico facility, and the Des Moines Works.

In 1999, Pinkston was named as Director, Worldwide Ag Quality at Deere & Company, and in 2000, Pinkston was appointed General Manager at John Deere Seeding, Moline. In 2005, Pinkston assumed responsibility of General Manager at the Waterloo Works, the largest of Deere & Company’s Ag Division and considered the flagship operation of the Company. In 2007 Pinkston was appointed Director, Manufacturing Strategic Planning, Global Tractor & Implement Sourcing, Deere & Company.

 

 

Andy Rolfe
Founder and Managing Director
The Keystone Group

Andy Rolfe is the Founder and Managing Director of The Keystone Group. Founded in 1991, Keystone serves the middle market manufacturing and distribution sectors. Keystone’s service lines include strategy and operations, turnaround management, and merger and acquisition integration. To its clients, Keystone brings a uniquely talented team coupled with an implementation orientation, yielding annual tangible results typically equal to ten times its fees or more.

Rolfe is responsible for leading the firm’s strategy, marketing, and profit improvement efforts. His client base includes a combination of publicly and privately-held companies. Prior to founding Keystone, Rolfe was an Associate Partner at Andersen Consulting in the Strategic Services Consulting practice. He graduated with a BS in Finance from Indiana University, and received his MBA from the University of Chicago.
